Getting Involved
There are currently 2 schools participating; A.K Wigg Public Elementary School in Fonthill and St.Rita's Catholic Elementary School in Brampton . In total we have collected over 1500 milk bags as two schools. We cannot reach our goal of 300,000 alone. WE NEED MORE HELP! We challenge you and your school to get involved. Tell all your friends and family so they can save bags too!! To get your school involved, talk to your principal or student council about the project. The Cause
In August of 2005 Haiti and Cuba were both severely hit by a hurricane that wreaked havoc everywhere its path took it. Homes were completely destroyed and families were torn apart by the deaths of loved-ones. Now 4 years later there are still people in need who are living in critical conditions. One of the many issues these people face is that they have no place to sleep at night. Our goal, along with Mrs. Cathleen Stallwood is to help change that. Mrs. Stallwood came up with a way to help the people of Haiti and Cuba without spending any money. ...

Bags for Beds
What is Bags for Beds? Can beds really be made out of bags? ABSOLUTELY !!! Here is how it is done. Milk bags, like the image below, are used to make a sort of wool out of the plastic! The bags are cut into strips. The strips are then tied together to form long strands and the strands are rolled into balls like wool. The "wool" is then crocheted into comfortable waterproof mats. Things at A.K. Wigg are humming along nicely! We’ve connected with our local printer who has agreed to cut the bags for us on their big cutting press. They’ll be able to cut 50 – 100 bags at a time and that will really speed up the process. We flattened all the bags we have and we’re going to take them to the printer soon…... [Read more...]
